SketchUp (via Trimble ID) uses passkeys and multi-factor authentication (MFA) for secure login. A passkey (secure digital credential from your device) may be required if you set it up previously or to enhance account security. You can also sign in using a one-time passcode (OTP) or other MFA methods if a passkey isn’t set up.

Even if a user didn’t intentionally “sign up” for a passkey, this can happen because:

  • MFA is required on many accounts (especially subscription licenses).
  • Their browser or device may have automatically created a passkey when they signed in previously.
  • Their organization’s admin may have enforced MFA or passkey login.
  • Trimble periodically upgrades accounts to stronger authentication methods.

Visit the official SketchUp Help Center for detailed guides on downloads, licensing, account management, MFA, troubleshooting, and other support resources
