Troubleshooting Watermarks in 3ds Max

The following document will show you how to resolve common configuration issues that result in RPCs rendering with watermarks.

Eliminate External File Paths containing RPCs.

One of the most common causes of unexpected watermarks is having External File Paths configured in 3ds Max to folders containing RPCs.

To resolve this issue:

1) Click Customize.

2) Configure User Paths…

3) Select External Files

4) Delete any paths containing RPCs.

Verify a License is Present in Dashboard

The license state is shown in the ArchVision Dashboard. Verify that a License is shown. If the blue Buy / Activate License button is present then an activation code is needed, or the license should be requested from the license pool. Click on Get License in the system tray to get a license if it has not been acquired.

If you have already purchased a license and don’t see it, please contact your license administrator or contact ArchVision Customer Service.

Verify 3ds Max is Configured to Connect to the Dashboard

The RPC Plug-in for 3ds Max should be configured to connect to the ArchVision Dashboard at 127.0.0.1 using port 14931. This setting is accessed by clicking on Configure Content under the RPC Selection dialog.

Verify an Archvision Content Manager is Not Running

If the process rpcacmapp.exe is running then the RPC Plug-in cannot communicate with the ArchVision Dashboard. This will result in watermarks. The Archvision Content Manager’s functions were replaced with the Archvision Dashboard and this tool should be uninstalled to avoid such issues.

To verify the rpcacmapp.exe process is not running, right click on the task bar and open the Task manager. Look for rpcacmapp.exe under running processes. If it is present end the process. The Dashboard should be restarted if the process rpcamcapp.exe is discovered to re-establish plug-in communications.

Verify Dashboard Service.exe is not running

If the process Dashboard Service.exe is running then the RPC Plug-in cannot communicate with the ArchVision Dashboard. This will result in watermarks. The Dashboard Service is no longer needed, as the latest Dashboard allows for unlicensed mode to handle network rendering. The Dashboard Service and Dashboard will not function in conjunction with one another.

Firewall Considerations

Internet Security Software can also prevent the RPC Plug-in for 3ds Max from connecting to the Archvision Dashboard to acquire a license. Make sure that port 14931 is not being blocked by Internet Security Software. It may be necessary to add C:Program FilesArchvisionDashboardDashboard.exe and C:Porgram FilesAutodesk3ds Max 20xx3dsmax.exe to the exceptions list to allow communications.
